David Westman, MBA, CAE, CPA
Interim Executive Director

Selected by the board of governors for his combination of experience and expertise in association leadership, David Westman joined WQA as its interim executive director in early November 2014. In this role, he will be responsible for guiding the organization through a comprehensive review of financial management, governance structures, staff functions and core processes.

Mr. Westman has worked extensively in the association and corporate realms, and has led or consulted on behalf of such groups as the College of Neurological Surgeons, American Dental Association and Emergency Nurse's Association. He developed his skills in business and financial analysis through 15 years in leadership roles at two large international professional service firms – KPMG and McGladrey – and has also served in an interim CEO for several professional associations. 

Mr. Westman holds an MBA in Finance and Marketing from the University of Chicago and is also a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and Certified Association Executive (CAE).

Pauli Undesser, CWS-VI
Deputy Executive Director

Pauli Undesser brings a vast knowledge of water treatment technologies, standards, codes and regulations, along with high-level project management skills, to her role at WQA.

Pauli joined the WQA team in 2007 and was named Deputy Executive Director in May 2014. Prior to accepting this new role, she most recently served as WQA's Director of Regulatory and Technical Affairs and Water Quality Research Foundation Coordinator. Under Pauli's leadership, WQA successfully coordinated a coalition to re-write and simplify industry product certification laws in California, launched an unprecedented capital campaign for its foundation and developed an internal toxicology program.

Pauli holds a bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and a master’s degree in Biochemistry from Northern Illinois University.

 
Susan Barkach
Human Resources Manager

Susan Barkach joined the WQA team in March 2014 to lead and develop the organization’s Human Resources Department. She has an extensive background managing human resources, organizational development and office operations.

Before joining WQA, Susan held a variety of leadership roles including director of human resources and operations for a local proprietary college, vice president of human resources & organizational development for an imaging technology firm in Milwaukee and employee relations manager for a technical staffing organization in Michigan. Susan has worked with non-profits, privately-held and publicly-traded companies and has managed a wide range of large-scale projects, including talent management initiatives, HRIS system implementations, benefit plan restructures, process improvements, M&A and internal communication programs.

Susan holds a master’s degree in Administration from Central Michigan University and a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Lawrence Technological University, located in Southfield, Michigan.

 
Larry Deutsch
Director of Communications

Larry Deutsch, an accomplished communications professional specializing in strategic communications and marketing for nonprofit organizations, joined the WQA management team in August 2013. As WQA’s director of communications, he oversees the Association’s efforts to reach key stakeholders with core messages.

With a work background includes a social services agency, two trade associations and a member-owned electric cooperative, Larry offers unique solutions to help nonprofit organizations produce top-tier communications on limited budgets.

Larry holds a master’s degree in Nonprofit Management and a bachelor’s degree in Russian and Business Administration, both from Washington University in St. Louis. He has been honored with more than 30 awards for excellence in strategic communications, crisis communications, public & media relations, political action, publication production and web-content development.

 
Tina Fischer-Donda, CWS-VI

Global Business Development Manager

Tina Donda has played an instrumental role in making the Gold Seal division a reputable American National Standards Institute (ANSI) and Standard Council of Canada (SCC)-accredited certification body. After joining WQA as an assistant in 2001, Tina was soon promoted and spent the subsequent ten years supervising the product certification program. 

In 2013, Tina took on her current role as global business development manager. She is charged with developing new business opportunities for product certification, cultivating relationships with client companies and helping WQA strengthen its reputation around the world.

 
Amanda Fisher, CWS-VI
Product Certification Manager

Amanda Fisher joined WQA as a product certification supervisory in 2011 and was promoted to product certification manager in 2013. In this role she provide leadership and guidance over the Gold Seal Product Certification, Sustainability Certification and Facility Assessment programs and staff. 

Before WQA, Amanda worked at Underwriters Laboratories, where she handled certification projects for drinking water system components and drinking water treatment chemicals. She has more than 10 years of experience in product testing and certification.

Amanda graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds a bachelor's degree in Chemistry. 

 
Margit Fotré
Director of Membership & Marketing

Since 1986, Margit Fotré has consistently marketed and promoted the value of WQA membership throughout the water treatment industry. As WQA’s Director of Membership and Marketing, she plays a vital role in growing the Association’s membership base through strong commitment to, and knowledge of the water treatment industry. 

Margit holds a bachelor’s degree in Communications from the University of Wisconsin – Stevens Point.

 
Nancy Henkel, CMP

Events Manager

Nancy Henkel is a certified meeting professional (CMP) with more than 15 years of professional experience planning events and meetings.  She joined WQA in November 2013 to manage the association’s Annual Convention, Mid-Year Leadership Conference, and other meetings and events.

During her career, Nancy has planned a wide variety of events including corporate annual meetings, educational conferences, certification training programs and receptions. She has conducted events for Fortune 500 companies, a large public university, the U.S. Department of Defense, professional organizations and the Mayor of the City of Chicago.

Nancy graduated with honors from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and holds a bachelor’s degree in Human Resources and Family Studies.

 
David Loveday
Director of Government Affairs

David Loveday, a veteran public affairs and political professional, has overseen WQA’s Government Affairs Department since 2007. He brings to WQA a vast base expertise gained during more than 30 years of experience in the public sector.

David has served as a staff member in the White House, on international delegations and in numerous high-level policy positions. He administered federal disaster assistance to Ethiopia and Sudan in the 1980s and has worked as a senior campaign official on more than ten national and statewide election campaigns.

He also served as a chief spokesman and director of communications staff in the Illinois House of Representatives, communications director for the Chicago-area Regional Transport Authority, and as external affairs director for the nation's second largest tollway system.

David has a bachelor's degree in Communications from the New York Institute of Technology.

 
Tanya Lubner, Ph.D.
Director of Education and Professional Certification

Dr. Tanya Lubner has served as WQA's director of Education & Professional Certification since 2005. In this role, she oversees the development of new program areas, creation of educational materials and examinations. 

Prior to joining WQA, Tanya was a sales engineer for a manufacturer of optical spectroscopy instrumentation. 

She holds a doctorate in inorganic chemistry.

 
Stuart Mann, CWS-VI
Sustainability Certification Supervisor

Stuart Mann combines industry expertise and a passion for protecting the Earth’s ecosystems in his role as leader of WQA’s Sustainability Certification Program.

Mann, who joined the WQA staff in early 2010, accepted the newly created position of Sustainability Certification Supervisor in late 2012. He is responsible for guiding water treatment companies through the sustainability certification process and for developing new product standards that demonstrate best practices for environmental sustainability and corporate social responsibility.

Mann holds a bachelor’s degree in Psychology from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and a master’s degree in Environmental Management & Sustainability from the Illinois Institute of Technology (IIT), where he also served as communications manager for the Office of Campus Sustainability.

 
K. "Chandu" Chandrasekhar, Ph.D.
Indian Operations Manager  Hyderabad

Since 2009, Dr. Kannepalli "Chandu" Chandrasekhar has served as manager of WQA operations in India. He is responsible for promoting

 WQA programs and services while pushing for the development of standards and increasing of consumer awareness of drinking water across India.

Prior to joining WQA, Chandu worked for Occupational Knowledge International, where he oversaw a certification program for lead acid batteries in India.

Chandu holds a Ph.D. in Environmental Science from Jawaharlal Nehru University in New Delhi and did his postdoctoral fellowship in Bangalore at the Indian Institute of Science's Centre for Ecological Sciences.

 
H.S. Choi
South Korea Operations Manager – Seoul

H.S. (HeungSoon) Choi joined WQA in early 2014 as South Korea operations manager. Working as an independent contractor based out of Seoul, H.S. facilitates relations between WQA member companies and the Korean Water Purifier Industry Cooperative (KOWPIC). He also performs factory inspections on behalf of WQA's Gold Seal Product Certification Program and increase awareness of WQA membership, product and professional certification programs among South Korean companies.

Prior to joining WQA, H.S. worked as.a business development manager for Underwriters Laboratories in South Korea. At UL he worked with public industry organizations and grew the company's testing, inspection and certification business.. H.S. holds a bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from HanYang University, in Seoul, South Korea.

 
Sam De Laender
Head of European Operations – Brussels, Belgium

Sam De Laender, an experienced professional certification audit manager, joined WQA in early 2014. As an independent contractor based in Brussels, Belgium, he serves as the WQA representative for all of Europe. Sam is responsible for promoting WQA membership and services throughout Europe, educating European WQA members on standards and regulations, and assisting in the development of WQA’s global Gold Seal product certification program.

Sam holds a master's degree in Engineering from the University of Leuven, Belgium. Prior to joining WQA, he served as an auditor for product certification at NSF International in Brussels, Belgium, and as audit manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa.

 
Simon Ding
China Operations Manager - Shanghai

Simon Ding joined WQA in 2009 and serves as the Association’s operations manager in China. Based in Shanghai, Simon is responsible for promoting WQA membership and services, educating WQA members on Chinese standards and regulations, and assisting in the development of WQA’s global Gold Seal Product Certification Program. His experience as the senior project manager for CHC Expo-RAI Amsterdam provides excellent networking opportunities for expanding WQA’s presence in China.

 

Simon holds a bachelor’s degree in International Business, Trade and Commerce from The Hague University in the Netherlands.
